Davos 2024 Was a Climate Venture Odyssey

Post-COP28, the buzz was all about a long-term strategy for climate, nature, and energy.

Hey Champ!

Did you know that a single tree absorbs 48 pounds of CO2 yearly? I know, I was shocked too… That's four days of car emissions! Skrr Skrr

This week's newsletter is a full of climate action:

  • Climate chat takes center stage at Davos 2024. Can I get an AMEN!

  • Sodium-ion batteries… They're eco-friendly and use everyday materials like table salt. Yup, wild.

  • EU's big move to phase out diesel trucks by 2040. I saw this one coming..

It’s exciting to see the world is finally on a journey to a greener future. And you, my friend, are a key player!

So what’s this week's climate action? Let me tell ya ↓

Davos 2024 Was A Climate Venture Odyssey

Last week at Davos, it wasn't just about global security and AI. Climate was a hot topic too! So it should be… Post-COP28, the buzz was all about a long-term strategy for climate, nature, and energy.

Here's the lowdown:

  • The big guns - finance ministers and central bankers - are optimistic about 2024. Inflation is cooling down, and interest rates are expected to follow. But, as Christine Lagarde says, brace for "non-normality"!

  • CEOs are rethinking business models. It's not just about sustainability; it's about regeneration. Imagine businesses not just sustaining but enhancing our planet!

  • The goal? Triple renewables by 2030. The challenge? NIMBYism (not in my backyard, I just learnt about this today). The solution? A ten-point plan focusing on policy certainty and innovative approaches like AI for project mapping and rooftop renewables.

Carbon Market Trust: ZERO13 and XTCC are joining forces. They want to attract a whopping $100bn into trusted carbon markets.

While you’re there you can read up on all of the other juicy topics we have available!

Sodium-Ion Batteries Are the Future's Powerhouse

We're in a new era of battery technology. Sodium-ion batteries are making waves, thanks to Chalmers University's research. They're eco-friendly and use everyday materials like table salt.

But there are many more reasons to jump on the sodium-ion batteries band wagon:

  • A sustainable alternative to lithium-ion batteries.

  • Aligns with the European Commission's raw materials strategy.

  • Opens new doors for renewable energy businesses.

  • Reduces geopolitical risks linked to lithium and cobalt.

  • An opportunity for you to support sustainable tech.

EU Says Bye-Bye to Diesel Trucks

The EU's making a bold eco-move! By 2040, almost all new diesel truck sales will end. It's a huge leap towards a carbon-neutral future. Trucks, major greenhouse gas emitters, are going green.

Here’s what this means:

  • Truck manufacturers, gear up for zero-emission tech!

  • A whole new market for sustainable transport is opening. Beep, beep!

  • Support green policies, invest in sustainable tech, and choose public transport.

ClimateDoor’s Venture Investing Note of the Week:

"Bet on the jockey, not the horse"

Mark Tadros, one of ClimateDoor's portfolio CEOs from Stardust Solar, is a rare breed and has taught us an age-old lesson...

That is simple in nature but extremely hard to execute:

Under promise and Over deliver.

In a realm where lofty revenue projections often remain just that—

Projections

Mark stands apart.

For three years straight, he's not only reached but exceeded every target.

something we've never come across in 10 years of investing and partnerships.

It's more than just numbers;

It's about setting realistic expectations and outdoing them.

This is more than just a newsletter; we're a community. A tribe of climate champions.

With that being said the team and I would love to hear from YOU.

That’s a wrap for this week.

Stay adventurous, keep informed, and let's keep pushing the boundaries for a sustainable future.

Until next time,

– Eko
